Day 1: Gears, Sweat, and Punk Rock Dreams
Hey there, world! My name is Keisha, a 25-year-old African American transwoman living in the bustling city of Boston. I'm here to share my life with you all – the ups, the downs, and everything in between.
As a bicycle messenger by day and a part-time bicycle mechanic, I've come to know the streets of Boston like the back of my hand. The wind in my hair as I weave through traffic, the adrenaline rush from dodging cars and pedestrians, it's all a part of the daily grind. And let me tell you, it's not for the faint of heart!
But when dusk falls, I trade my messenger bag and grease-stained hands for a microphone and torn fishnets. I step onto dimly lit stages as the lead singer of Voltron Crew, a struggling punk rock band that's hungry for success. With a raw, unapologetic sound, we're determined to make our mark on the local music scene.
Today started like any other Tuesday – an early morning wake-up call followed by a quick breakfast of peanut butter toast and black coffee. I hopped on my trusty bike, affectionately nicknamed "Diva," and hit the streets for another day of delivering packages and navigating the urban jungle. The sun was shining, and I could feel the warmth on my skin as I pedaled through the city.
During my lunch break, I swung by the bike shop to pick up a few spare parts and chat with my fellow mechanics. We swapped stories about our latest cycling adventures and shared tips on how to keep our bikes in tip-top shape. Afterward, I scarfed down a veggie wrap and guzzled some ice-cold water before heading back out for the afternoon deliveries.
As evening approached, I met up with my bandmates at our usual rehearsal space – a semi-soundproofed basement two blocks from my apartment. We spent the next few hours rehearsing for our upcoming show and perfecting our set list. The energy in the room was electric, and as I belted out the lyrics to one of our newest songs, I could feel something stirring inside me – a newfound confidence that comes from pushing yourself
